Always look forward when cycling

Sounds simple enough, ‘look forward when cycling’, apparently a mistake you only make once. So I was cycling along the Euston road, London when I think suddenly that I’ve got a puncture on my rear tyre! (thin tyre big bag, not so heavy Rob but enough). I think it was something to do with the road surface changing followed by a gear shift. Anyway, hands on bar ends (i.e. not next to breaks) I look down and my rear wheel (foolish) look up and then look down again (foolish), look up and I see another cyclist right in front of me going really slowly. I smack straight into the back of him whip my foot off the pedal (clipped in with cleat sort) and thrust my foot to the floor to stop myself from falling but of course the cleat is metal so I slide along half connected to my bike, half on the road until I eventually stop sprawled across the road with great embarrassment. The cyclist in front apologised to which I replied “it was ALL my fault”. Cars stopped everywhere, people looking.

Result: very embarrassed, a sore knee and another cyclist paranoid when turning left.
